A vintage Moorcroft bowl in the Hibiscus pattern by Walter Moorcroft.Nb. For accuracy of description, the ground colour is actually a dark green but may appear to have a brown tone on some screens.The diameter (at the rim) is 139mm and the height 60mmRegarding age, it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.With this bowl however the style of the impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND stamps on the base suggest a date range c1949 to 1986To narrow this down further the original hibiscus pattern was designed by Walter Moorcroft in 1949 and then redrawn from 1960. The coral hibiscus pattern originally from 1968 was also designed by Walter Moorcroft. Once introduced designs could of course be further developed over time. Given that the design featured here is a coral hibiscus pattern it would be reasonable to assess the age of the bowl as c1970’s to mid 1980’s.The bowl is clearly of genuine vintage age.This bowl has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks noted. Any crazing, often associated with vintage Moorcroft items, is minor and commensurate with age.The bright colours on the dark green ground make for an attractive item which should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.Available by ordering online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor where a selection of Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern times can be viewed.Please Note: This item is offered for sale for purposes of display, collecting etc and may not be suitable for use with foodstuff.
